YOUNG CARERS
At Minster Primary school we believe that all our children have a right to an education, regardless of what is happening at home. When a child is a young carer, they may need some extra support to help them get the most out of school. A young carer may look after someone in their family with a disability, long-term illness, mental health or substance misuse problem.
IMAGO (Young Carer Service) report that –
‘As many as 1 in 5 children and young people are young carers in the UK. Some begin giving care from a very young age, and others become carers overnight. Many young carers don’t see themselves as carers and miss out on getting the help and support they need and deserve.’
‘Young carers take on lots of responsibilities including, practical tasks such as cleaning, cooking, shopping and managing medicines or money, physical care like helping someone out of bed or get dressed, looking after brothers and sisters and emotional support such as providing comfort and reassurance.’
At Minster Primary School we work to support our young carers within school. By identifying, supporting them and also offering sessions, whereby our young carers can have some time together to enjoy a fun activity and time to celebrate them!!
TERM 3 ACTIVITY – Young Carers will be making Pizzas to enjoy!
This term, we celebrate our young carers with a fun session of pizza making.
