Ethos and Values

Education doesn’t need to be reformed – it needs to be transformed. The key to this transformation is not to standardise education, but to personalise it, to build achievement on discovering the individual talents of each child, to put students in an environment where they want to learn and where they can naturally discover their true passions.’

Ken Robinson

Mission Statement & Values

At Minster Primary School we are committed to creating a learning community in which children are perseverant, resilient risk takers who take responsibility for their learning and develop their critical creative and social abilities fully. We believe that children learn best when learning is: exciting, challenging, creative, collaborative, practical, reflective and meaningful. Learning should inspire children to ask questions and to wonder. It should provide them with memorable experiences. It should develop in them the skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, social responsibility, problem solving and reflection. It should have the highest of expectations of the learners. It should build on experience and always be purposeful and relevant.

In partnership with parents, carers and the wider community, we aim to achieve this vision and to deliver the very best education to our children to enable every child

‘To be the best they can be’

Specifically ensuring that:

  • We provide a welcoming environment and opportunities for children to become independent and active participants in their own learning
  • We have high expectations of our children and ensure that they have the opportunity to achieve their full academic and social potential
  • We provide a rich and balanced curriculum that is well planned and effective in meeting the needs of all our children
  • We encourage children to become self-disciplined, responsible and to nurture their awareness, respect and understanding of other people and the shared environment
  • We recognise the importance of literacy and numeracy as the key components required to access the full curriculum, in order to achieve high standards in all subjects
  • We will monitor and evaluate the progress of each child, setting challenging targets based on individual needs and involving pupils and parents in the process
  • We aim to make children aware that they live in a multi-cultural community, from which they benefit and to which they contribute
  • We aim to provide opportunities for all children to excel irrespective of race, class, gender, religion, culture, physical and academic ability
  • We will constantly monitor and evaluate the quality of our teaching to ensure that we provide an ever improving education for our children
  • We aim to create a successful working partnership where all those involved in the school community work together in a spirit of co-operation
  • We will aim to provide children with experiences beyond the school environment which will enrich and enhance their learning

Overall Aim:

To ensure that the children of Minster Primary School have the very best opportunity
