British Values

“We want every school to promote the basic British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs." Lord Nash

At Minster Primary School, we develop and promote British Values throughout our school and within our curriculum. A key part of our plan for education is to ensure children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

British Values

  • The Rule of Law

  • Democracy

  • Individual Liberty

  • Mutual Respect

  • Tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs

The learning that will take place around the British values will support pupils to truly become the best citizen they can be!

Intent

At our school, guided by our vision “Be the Best We Can Be,” we aim to ensure every pupil develops a secure understanding of the fundamental British Values: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs. Our intent is for pupils to become confident, respectful and responsible citizens who make positive choices and contribute to life in modern Britain.

Implementation

We embed British Values consistently across school life by:

· Curriculum integration through PSHE, RE, assemblies and themed learning.

· Democratic practice, we have our own Minster Parliament, as such, pupil elections, leadership roles and regular opportunities for pupil voice.

· Clear behaviour expectations that reflect fairness, consistency and respect for rules.

· Promoting individual liberty by encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their learning and personal conduct.

· Celebrating diversity through visits, visitors, cultural events and engagement with the local community.

Staff model these values daily, and they are woven through our relationships, routines and wider pastoral work.

Impact

Pupils demonstrate:

· Respect for others and an understanding of diverse beliefs and backgrounds.

· A clear sense of right and wrong and why rules keep us safe.

· Confidence in expressing opinions while listening to and valuing others.

· Responsible behaviour and active participation in school life.

As a result, pupils live out our vision “Be the Best We Can Be” and are well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain.
